FW: CIA's X-Men Marathon
Greetings members,

The CIA is happy to announce our first event for 2006!

In conjunction with the Curtin Uni maths club, we will be running *drum
roll*

***The X-Men Marathon***

This event will be the first two X-Men movies being viewed at Curtin Uni,
followed by a dinner break (a pizza run will be done if you wish to place an
order) and then we will be travelling in convoy to Hoyts Carousel to see
X-Men 3. Of course, those of you who are busy during the day and thus
unable to join us for the first two movies are welcome to join up with the
group at Hoyts.

So, here are the all important details:

What: The X-Men Marathon (X-Men I, II & III)
Where: Curtin University (Ken Hall lecture theatre), followed by Hoyts
Carousel. *See below for directions.
When: Saturday 27th of May. The Marathon will kick off at 12.00pm, with a
dinner break at ~4.45pm followed by the movie at 6.00pm (we will be aiming
to arrive at the cinema 20 minutes early to get the tickets and good seats,
those of you joining us there please be there by 5.45pm to get your tickets.
We will be going into the cinema around 10minutes before the movie starts,
so please dont be late :-) )
How: This event is made possible by the sponsorship and assistance of the
Curtin Student Guild.
Cost: The first part of the Marathon (at Curtin Uni) will be free. The
tickets for X-Men 3 have been discounted with the help of the Curtin Student
Guild, and prices are:

Normal ticket price: $11.00
Guild member ticket price: $10.00
Non Guild-member, Club member ticket price: $6.00
Guild-member & Club member ticket price: $5.00

Guild membership is free for Curtin students, and we would encourage any
club members who are not currently Guild members to join up, as the Guild
offers a vast variety of services to Curtin Students. Details of guild
membership and benefits can be found at http://guild.curtin.edu.au/.

Snacks and drinks will be on sale during the first two movies. We will also
do a pizza run during the dinner break, with pizzas costing $7.

So clear your Saturday, get on your favourite movie going pants, and come
along to have a great time with your club. Also bring along any friends who
may want to see the movie.

(*Hoyts Carousel is located at 'The Street', Westfield Carousel - 1382
Albany Hwy CANNINGTON. Ken Hall Lecture Theatre is (Building 403.101) is
located across from the Guild Presinct at Curtin University. A map of the
campus is available here:
http://www.properties.curtin.edu.au/your_campus/maps/).

If you have any queries, or would like to get a ticket for X-Men 3 but cant
make it to the first part of the marathon, please email me or call me on

First Meeting of the new Committee
When: 12:15 noon, 30th April 2006
Where: 202.190

The first meeting of the new committee will be on the 30th of April. Any suggestions by members for the meeting or events should be sent to the secretary
by monday 24th april.

Annual General Meeting
When: 12:00 noon on the 9th of April
Where: In the courtyard outside building 202
"The CIA AGM will be occurring on Sunday the 9th of April at 12:00 outside the art rooms (Building 202). The meeting should be finished by 1:00pm so it won't interfere with games that are planned to be on then. For those of you who don't know, at the AGM we decide on the new President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Changes to the constitution also can be done at the AGM. So if there is anything there that you think can be improved go ahead and bring it up at the AGM. The constitution can be viewed through our website http://cia.gwoink.com as well as some other useful information. This will be a good opportunity to renew your membership for this year if you have not done so already, as well as having a say in the direction of the club for this year. So if you can make it please come along, hope to see you there."

"O-day 2006" by Binky
What: 2006 O Day CIA fresher hunting expedition
Where: In the guild precinct, outside psych, opposite sports store/unicredit, next to grassy spot
well if you can't see then what's the point
When: THIS WEDNESDAY, 22nd Feb. I think it's 10 onwards for the offical part of clubs O day, but given parking at Curtin that day and set up, I recommend showing up early as possible. I'm going for 9am at the latest myself. Even if you can't give a whole day, we'd still love to see you when you can get there.

I'm working on something to do Wednesday night too - some sort of post-event thankyou/welcome party, gathering, cinema run. If anyone who can't be there during the day wants to contribute by working on this instead, please let me know!
Theme: Piratey! (thank you Lyall.) CIA shirts are good, as are scarves, eyepatches, parrots, cardboard swords, basically anything that draws a bit of attention and gives us an excuse to make noise and act like slight gooses.

Thursday 29th September, 2005: Serenity

When: 7:00 P.M. Saturday the 1st of October, 2005.

Where: Hoyts, Carousel
Why: Because
No really, Why?: To get our members introduced to each other. This is also the first of monthly/bi - monthly events the club has planned for its members.

Other stuff: Membership cards will be available for pickup on the night.

A new executive was voted into office, 5 new OCMs were appointed and the constitution was ratified unchanged.

It took until 2:20PM to get the 20 members we required for quorum.

Tuesday 8th March, 2005 : Forum
I turned off most of the forum's dead and unwanted boards and made the colour scheme even uglier than it was before.

Enjoy!

Monday 7th March, 2005 : Membership cards, Forum
Those of you who have joined AND paid will find that you don't have to come to the rooms at 202 to get your membership cards because on Wednesday the 9th of March there will be a C.I.A. member at a table in the guild area with your membership card ready. This offer is only available this week and only from 12pm - 1pm.

Additional: Life has been discovered on the forum! Scientists believe this to be caused by the mailing list moderator to be A.W.O.L. Expect changes.

Friday 25th February, 2005 : New members
The C.I.A. welcomes all the new members that signed up on O-day 2005!
New members click here.
The lastest news is as follows:
  • The Zone 3 event at Northbridge will likely be pushed back a week or three due to guild regulations in regards to club funding. Our apologies if this occurs.
  • The C.I.A. Library will be available to members shortly. We have ordered the cabinets from Curtin. They will arrive when they arrive.
  • All the new members are shortly going to be added to the mailing list. To keep the peace we will be putting a committee appointed moderator to operate it, if possible. This depends on how the list is run by msquared.
  • The Annual General Meeting for 2005 will be held on Sunday the 10th of April. As usual it will take place on the grassed area outside the gaming rooms.
The typical start time is 11am and the meeting usually doesn't last for more than an hour.
  • Redesign the website and win $100! Or something. The committee hasn't yet decided on an amount yet. We ARE looking to redesign the website and we're fairly certain that there are people out there than can make it look a whole lot better. Keep in mind that the typical CIA colours are green and black. Everything else is fair game.
  • Membership cards should be available Sunday at the 202 rooms for those people who registered on O-day or earlier.

CIA Orientation Day booth
This year, like every other year, the CIA will be having a booth for O-day.
We need anyone with absolutely nothing to do to come in and sit behind the desk for a few hours. Our intention is not to scare people away, so please be washed and sober.

Warning, Peter McAndrew will dress up as a girly man. Don't make eye contact. He has a sword hidden in those robes.

13th January, 2005: Stuff
Well, obviously secretcon was cancelled. It was cancelled in leiu of a beginning of year event instead. The event planned is an Orbit lockout, meaning the CIA would have the venue for the night. Video games and pool, just like at home, but with people other than yourself.

More details to follow.

26th October, 2004: Secretcon Update 2
Hello all,

At this stage I would like to announce that we have confirmed Camp Geographe
as the location of Secretcon 2004, which will be running from Friday 3rd to
Friday 10th of December, 2004.

For those of you who are interested in coming but have yet to tell me, could
you please email me or talk to me by Sunday, so we can get a deposit off,
and see if we will have sufficient numbers.

From more details on the camp site, go to

campgeog@su.wa.org.au

Once numbers are confirmed we will be dealing with payments and forms etc.
At this stage the cost will be $30 - $40 for the whole weeks accomodation
(this is based on the price minus the subsidy the CIA will provide for its
members).

21st October, 2004: Secretcon UPDATE. South!
"As far as Secretcon goes, the dates will remain the same, and we still need people to express their interest. However, I would think at this stage Kalgoorlie (town of whores and booze) is out, and we will be moving Secretcon to Mr Chow's suggestion (if it all pans out). Keep an eye open for updates, but I still need people to express their interest. For those of you who have forgotten: What - Secretcon 2004 Where - Most likely http://www.su.org.au/wa/camps/geographe.html When - Friday the 3rd to Friday the 10th of December, 2004 What - RPG's, LANs, LARPs, Iron Stomach, Water Fights, Card Games (more munchkin than RPGs - pun intended) and more geeky stuff How much - At this stage, we're looking at only $30 for the ENTIRE WEEK. My gods, that cheap Anyhows, I still need people to email or talk to me if their interested in going. So far, we only have one person....."

23rd September, 2004: Secretcon
Secretcon is an annual week-long event where CIA members go out of their parent's houses and share sleepness nights playing role-playing games hyped up on caffiene, pushing computer power supplies to the brink of destruction at LANs with barely sufficient power and rolling and crashing cars due to inebriation and sufficient lack of nearby law enforcement.

In 2004, the CIA committee plans to hold Secretcon somewhere in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. We need your interest to make this a reality though. Please inform several CIA committee members if you are interested.

Proposed begin date: Anywhere from 4th Dec. 2004 - 16th Dec. 2004
Duration: 5-7 days
Cost: $84 before subsidy. More like $40 including guild subsidy.
Activities: Role-playing, LANs, General drunkeness + more to come.

1st September, 2004

Minutes for the 29th of August Committee Meeting now online.

Another story from Peter Hillier online

31st August, 2004: Casual Dark Zone Friday announced
Sick of casual dress days?

How about casual sex? Sick of that, or unlikely to see it any time soon?

Then this friday night is for you! It's time for.....

CASUAL CIA DARK ZONE!

Yes that's right, no particular organisation is happening. Just show up and
play if you feel like it.
(Basically not enough people answered my last email, so we're not bothering
with a lockout session yet ).

A bunch of us are going to go to Dark Zone (the other branch of Zone 3) this
Friday night. if you feel like a game or few, just pop down to Dark Zone
from about 7.30pm onwards and chances are, there'll be a couple of other
CIA people there too. Just nice and casual - play what you want, pay them
what ever you have to. It'd be nice to have a group of about 10 or more CIA
people there, so we could get some discounts, but meh - whatever happens
happens. Please note this is not War of The Rings, or training, or anything
like that. It's just bored peoples doing something on a Friday night.

so yes - this Friday 3rd September, 7.30ish.
at
Dark Zone
Southlands Shopping Centre Burrendah Blvd, Willetton 6149

(if you're coming in on the circle route, get off in front of McDonalds,
Pizza Hut, etc, walk over to your right hand side of the shopping centre,
where Australia Post is, then go upstairs.)

Want to know stuff about Dark Zone ie what do do, what to wear, etc? Try
www.darkzone-wa.com for more information.

Theres also a food court and Hoyts there, if that interests people too.

If you're thinking of rocking up and can be bothered, please drop me a line,
so we know to look out for you. Also, if there's quite few people planning
on going, I'll give them a call so they know to book us some spaces.

PS - If you're a super nice person and can offer people lifts, pop a quick
email out on babelfish and make some people happy!
